Personal Access Code for Employment Insurance

First Post

Never thought I will be jobless at this stage. Maybe I should have seen it coming. After all, I was already using a cane when I joined my employer is October 2006.

Anyway, on August 8, 2014, a Friday, my boss told me she had to discuss a "transition plan" with me. So off I went dutifully to the conference room, where the head of our HR was also present, telephonically. For 15 minutes she lectured me on my shortcomings and also admitting that the job content was significantly different now than when I was hired in 2006. She then left the room and the HR lady remained on the phone, to further the discussion.

She said that the company had decided that I would be offered a disability package which is basically what is available under our group insurance. I now have a week to get back to them agreeing (or disagreeing) with the offer.

I wanted to find out if I am eligible for payment of Employment Insurance (EI) in addition to these disability payments. In that search, I ended up at a Services Canada website. From there I was directed to a page where you need to apply for your Personal Access Code, which will be mailed to my home address.

Just created this blog to provide a blow-by-blow saga of losing a job to a disability and its aftermath.
